Archbishop of the Western Hemisphere and the Caribbean.
July 23, 1933 - December 29, 2005
In Loving and Deep Respectful Memory of Our Beloved earthly Father,
who taught us by his humble example how to serve the true and living God.
He was a Saintly Monk, a true and faithful shepherd of the Lord.
His Mausoleum is in Kingston, Jamaica, at
Holy Trinity Ethiopian Orthodox Church on Maxfield Ave.
As a Pastor, Archbishop Yesehaq traveled throughout Ethiopia proclaiming the Gospel.
He was eventually appointed administrator of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in the United States and Jamaica. He was archbishop of the Western Hemisphere Diocese from 1979 until his passing in December 2005. His Eminence was interested in reaching the African Diaspora and devoted much time to that cause.
He baptized thousands of people throughout the world, including USA, Africa,
the Caribbean, hundreds in Jamaica, including Bob Marley.
He touched so many more spiritually with his humble, gentle and non-
judgmental way of living. Some of those including Prime Ministers and other
heads of state; as well as clergy of other denominations.

He is a Holy Monk, a teacher.
The title of Tsabate means "the teacher of Monks".
He was raised and educated at Debre Libanos monastery, a place that is known for producing exemplary leaders of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Within this distinguished spiritual sanctuary, he received his formative education and religious studies beginning at the age of four.
Shortly after he was ordained Archimandrite, he was the Abbot, assigned to administer both the women’s convent and the men's monastery of Debre Libanos. Under his leadership he established humanitarian and educational projects. In 2003 he established Debre Bisrat St Gabriel church in Atlanta, GA. USA.
He was a great friend and respected colleague of Our Beloved Father the late Abune Yesehaq. Tsebate was the main (head) Priest that officiated the funeral services of Abune Yesehaq in New York Washington, Dallas and his burial in Jamaica, West Indies.
He also shares the vision of Abune Yesehaq of one unified church, and also the desire to continue the works of our faithful father in the United States and the Caribbean.
His knowledge of our Faith and Practice is immense. and his teachings provides only a glimpse of his tremendous knowledge of the traditions and sacred scriptures, which are the true underpinnings of our faith.
The mission and purpose of this website is to purposely share information/knowledge about the teachings, structure and practice of the ancient Christian Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
It is meant to be a source of information for all people. Some who may have been born outside of Ethiopia and also those whom may have been baptized in the Ethiopian Church, and do not attend regular service because there may not be a church in their area, or for whatever reason,
and may have become disconnected with the church.
This site is also meant to be a place to find answers to simple questions you may be wondering about.
We try to give basic information as well as general and more indept knowledge about spiritual life.

in past years, I have spent extended time at Debre Libanos Monastery and at Getesemani Nunnery in the town of Sebeta, Ethiopia, praying and learning.
I am happy to say that of my own free will and by the Grace of God, I was blessed as a Monk (Nun) by His Eminence Abuna Mathias in Jerusalem, at the oldest Ethiopian Orthodox Monastery Deir es-Sultan on the roof of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Golgotha. It is the site where Our Lord Eyesus Kristos was crucified.
I pray that I may be a good example of Abuna Yesehaq's tireless teachings of love, grace, patience, kindness, and service to God.
It is also our mission to fulfill Abuna Yesehaq's vision of building monasteries in the Caribbean and the USA. They will serve as a home for the Monks and retreat for other Clergy, as well as a spiritual retreat for lay people. They will further the traditional mission of The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Christian Church as a evangelical and monastic place for learning and serving Almighty God. I was baptized by His Eminence Abuna Yesehaq, and given the new name "Hannah Mariam".
My own father had recently died, and so Abuna Yesehaq became not only my spiritual /confessor father but also one who was like my biological father.
I am blessed to have had Abuna Yesehaq as a teacher, and father figure.
The pain of his passing is endless. However, I am comforted to know that he is in the loving arms of God, and we who believe in the Mystire Tensaea Mutan (resurrection) know that we will meet again.
I strive to do all that I am able, to help to continue his works and his vision to unify the churches of the West, and educate the people born outside of Ethiopia on the practice and principles of worship of the Ancient Holy Mother Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. I love it when everyone feels comfortable and at ease so they can concentrate their minds on worshipping our Lord God. May Eternal life be his and the songs of the Angels fill his soul with Joy.
Teacher: The belief that the Holy Gospel and the Holy Prayers of the EOTC should reach everyone in the Diaspora.
